Running a Marathon

Early in the wee hours of the morning, I awoke twitching in spasms on my right side of my body. Bouts of spasms n numbness starting from my lower back to my right limbs kept coming on n off during my unrestful sleep. Being unable to sleep any longer, I awoke at 4.30 a.m. stretching in my bed to relieve the tension of the spasms.

After washing up, I sat down at my study table to read my BIBLE with reference to the Daily Bread article on 'Running a Marathon'. The Bible passage is taken from Philippians 3:12 - 21.

The key verses that always strike me are Philippians 3: 13, 14 (NIV).
"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

These verses keep coming to my mind, especially when I start missing my teaching days. Today happens to be Teachers' Day.

As Christians, we are all somehow in a marathon. It takes endurance to run and finish the race of life. Our LORD Jesus has set an example of how to run life's marathon. The Bible tells that Jesus "for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2). Despite "hostility from sinners," He completed His race (v.3).

The secret to finishing well is to look forward to the joy that awaits us after life's race - eternal life with Him.

I ran to meet Him when I heard His call -
The Saviour's arms were open to receive;
And I'm still running since I gave my all,
Inviting others also to believe.     - Hess

The Christian's race is not a competitive event but an endurance run.

Indeed, this is very true. Once again, I am reminded by God's Word to endure and keep going.
Thanks be to GOD for this day He has given and the timely words of refreshment and encouragement! I must learn to rejoice, give thanks and stop lamenting and complaining about my problems. Pray that I learn to look to GOD and focus on Him. All things are possible with GOD!

May God teach me to be wise in speech that my words be full of grace and seasoned with salt. May my words be helpful and constructive, not harmful or destructive. Praying that the day ahead will be a good one and everything goes well. May my friends and family around me be blessed with health, happiness and good cheer.

A new hymn learnt last Sunday is very meaningful.

'Sometime We'll Understand'
http://nethymnal.org/htm/s/o/sometiwu.htm

Not now, but in the coming years,

It may be in the better land,

We’ll read the meaning of our tears,

And there, some time, we’ll understand.

Then trust in God through all the days;

Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand;

Though dark thy way, still sing and praise,

Some time, some time we’ll understand.

We’ll catch the broken thread again,

And finish what we here began;

Heav’n will the mysteries explain,

And then, ah then, we’ll understand.

Refrain

We’ll know why clouds instead of sun

Were over many a cherished plan;

Why song has ceased when scarce begun;

’Tis there, some time, we’ll understand.

Refrain

God knows the way, He holds the key,

He guides us with unerring hand;

Some time with tearless eyes we’ll see;

Yes, there, up there, we’ll understand.

Refrain

6:17 am;

Just Be

Be strong enough to
face the world each day
Be weak enough to know
you cannot do everything alone

Be generous to those who need your help
Be frugal with what you need yourself

Be wise enough to know that
you do not know everything
Be foolish enough to

BELIEVE in MIRACLES

Be willing to
SHARE your JOYS
Be willing to
SHARE the sorrows of others

Be a leader when you see a path others have missed
Be a follower when
you are shrouded in the midst of uncertainty

Be the FIRST to CONGRATULATE an opponent who SUCCEEDS
Be the LAST to CRITICIZE a friend who FAILS

Be sure where next step will fall, so that you will not stumble
Be sure of your final destination,
in case you are going the wrong way.

Be LOVING
to those who LOVE you

Be LOVING
to those who DO NOT LOVE you,
and they may CHANGE.

Above all, BE YOURSELF.
