Remembering My First Love for TEACHING... REACH OUT TO TEACH

I Want to TEACH

Reach out to teach
Make a difference with the people I meet
Share in the joy
When one discovers new things
The joy it brings

To be a part
Of that most important journey to start
Flying on wings
When one discovers new things
The joy it brings
I want to teach

Chorus:
Can I be sure when I decide
Will the future be on my side
What do I lose with the path I choose
I just know what my heart’s telling me
You see ... ...

I want to teach
To explore new shores and maybe inspire
Look in their eyes when they discover new things
The joy it brings
Reach out to teach...

Morning Walk Along Kallang Riverside Park

Early in the morning, I arose at 7.30 a.m. to wash up, eat breakfast and do my Quiet Time to meditate on God's Words. After Quiet Time, I happily brought my niece Keziah out for a time of exploration, finding the route to Kallang Riverside Park that is near my new home.
We had fun walking to the Kallang Riverside Park. It was such an awesome view of the Kallang River that little Keziah even thought she saw Sentosa. Hahaha. It was a joy to bring her to walk around discovering coconut trees and many bright coloured flowers along Kallang Riverside Park.

Upon reaching home, she ran to the playground to play for a short while before we took the lift back my new home. It had been an enjoyable cheery morning. What a joy to take time to marvel at God's creation ... all that God made!
Having played the whole morning, Keziah was so tired that she fell flat on my bed to sleep after eating her lunch at 12 noon. Sleeping babe.

Learn @ One Degree North - The Climate Challenge @ Science Centre

It was raining cats and dogs early in the morning when I reached Singapore Science Centre. I reached earlier than my Infocomm Club boys and my colleagues Kian Ann and Daniel. Hence, I queued to register for the Learn @ One Degree North competition on the Climate Challenge. Upon reaching, they joined me in the queue for the registration to get the stuff we needed. I was glad that Daniel and Kian Ann could help with taking care of the boys as they ran about to complete questions on the Climate Challenge.

While waiting for them, I had my breakfast at MacDonalds, downloaded and edited photos and listened to my music collections on my school laptop.
My greatest surprise was when I met with my long-lost ex-primary school friend, Dellia. Wow. I was elated to meet her after years of lost contact.

Around 12 noon, my Infocomm Club boys were done with the Climate Challenge. Well, they were confident of winning and getting into the next round since they were able to complete their tasks on Land, Air and Water with great confidence.
Pray that our Infocomm Club can win something for this Learn @ One Degree North - Climate Challenge. This will be the last competition that I will be with them before I leave teaching.

After a hard day's work, I rewarded the boys with a meal at Science Centre's MacDonalds.

Later in the afternoon, Kian Ann and Daniel joined me for late lunch cum early dinner at Suntec City Tony Romas after sending the boys back to school. We had a good time eating, chatting and discussing ways to restructure TKP Infocomm Club to improve and make everyone's lives better. In
appreciation of their hard work, I gave them a treat at Tony Romas since I will be leaving TKP soon.
I certainly hope TKP Infocomm Club will grow to be stronger and better than ever after I leave. I really hope our Infocomm Club can win some recognition for the work we contribute in terms of photography, videography, editing, animation and competitions that we participated.

My Last Days of Teaching ... Leaving on 30th June

As Term 2 comes to an end, my teaching days has also come to an end. This week was my last week with my form class, 2 Diligence.
There have been good times and bad times shared with this group of children. I will definitely miss them.

On Wednesday, I was glad to have Qing Qing (aka Miss Sim) to join us for Sunbaking activity and the rest of Term 2 Week 10. Graduating from National Institute of Education, just like me from the Bachelor of Arts, we had many things in common and hit it off well. Hence, I have shared alot of tips on teaching with her and briefed her at length about the children and other matters.

I take it upon myself to automatically be her buddy in Tanjong Katong Primary, introducing her to various colleagues and showing her the key places around the school. Well, that's just me, always a friendly gal who cares and shares without any holdback, especially with people whom I can hit it off well. Heehee, I always love making new friends, regardless of age, just like FRIEND BEAR.

In the last few days with my class, Qing Qing followed and sat at the back of the class to observe how the children behaved and learnt during my lessons. Hence, I was glad to have her around during the past few days as she can get a better idea of how to handle these darlings of mine whom I be handing over to her. In addition, she also sat through the Meet-The-Parents session with me yesterday. This helps in familiarising herself with the children's home background in order to help them better in Term 3.
I believe she can do a good job of taking care of these children, nurturing them in the best way. Yeah! Therefore, I am at ease to handover everything to her as the time for me to go draws near. My official last day at Tanjong Katong Primary will be 30th June, thus she will take over my class 2D with effect from Term 3.

During the past few days, we did many activities together. Memorable moments of my teaching days...

For next term, my last event will be taking photographs of P2 Petz Day in Week 1 before I leave the teaching fraternity for research work on effects of climate change on sea level rise of Singapore. After leaving teaching, I will embark on my next learning journey of discovery to further my interests in Geography (which I majored in my university days at NIE) and Photography (which I love). I will be working as a research assistant at National University of Singapore's Tropical Marine Science Institute with Dr Raju to research on the effects of climate change on sea level rise of Singapore. A job that uses my expertise in geography, photography and videography for documentation of the project. For more details, refer to this website: http://www.tmsi.nus.edu.sg/

Well, if time avails, I am willing to be a tutor to whoever needs help in English and Mathematics. Charges can be negotiated but tentatively fixed at $50 per 2 hour session for any future tuition engagements. The heart of teaching is still there afterall. I can be contacted via sms or e-mail for the arrangements in August.

As the June holidays arrive, I am thankful that I have time to clear things and rest well before I begin my next phase of my career life. A time for exploration, adventure and gathering of more world exposure and experience to be an even better teacher in future. I may even try out freelance photography along with giving tuition. After I settle my moving house matters, I hope to join my buddies, Hua Chin and Weijia at REACH OUT to do volunteer work too. Nonetheless, I may make the plans, but let God direct me in all my ways in His path. Let God show me what's best as I run this race of life for the LORD my God! Meanwhile, it's time for a good rest to recharge myself.

Quiet Time and Hymns Sharing

Here are some sharings for the day after reading the Bible and singing hymns. Tomorrow will be my turn to lead in singspiration in my church 'Fisherman of Christ' at 12 Geylang Lorong 24. Hence, I have prepared some hymns for singing now that I have recovered my voice that I lost during the flu bout.

Quiet Time sharing...
Hebrews 3: 7 - 15 --> c.f. Daily Bread: Seize the Day
--> c.f. NJKV: Be Faithful
What I have learnt:
1) Psalm 31: 5
"My times are in Your hand."
God is in charge of my life.

2) God gives an urgent directive in v. 13
"but exhort one another daily, while it is called "Today", lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

3) I partake of Christ as a Christian.

4) Hold the beginning of my confidence steadfast to the end.

5) Hear the Voice of the LORD.

6) Share God's love with a friend or loved one.

7) Seize the opportunities that God gives me today.

8) Redeem the time - God only knows
How soon our little life may close;
As every passing moment flows,
Redeem the time! -- Anon

9) Plan as though I'll be living for a century;
Live as though I'll be leaving today.

Singspiration

1) 335 - Sunshine in My Soul
Lyrics by: Eliza E. Hewitt
Music by: John R. Sweney
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/u/sunshine.htm

Background Info:
Hewitt suffered a severe back injury, but after 6 months in a cast, she was finally able to take a simple walk in the park. The joy she felt at her recovery prompted these words.

Similar to Hewitt, I have been sick with a bad bout of flu and cough for the past 4 weeks. As I am renewed by God daily and recover, I feel the same joy as the hymn writer Hewitt did.

2) 483 Sweet Hour of Prayer
c.f. 1 Thessalonians 5: 17
"Pray without ceasing."
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/h/shop.htm

3) 484 'Tis the Blessed Hour of Prayer
Lyrics: Fanny J. Crosby (a blind lady)
Music : William H. Doane
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/t/i/s/tisthebl.htm

4) 256 Blessed Assurance
Lyrics: Fanny J. Crosby
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/b/l/e/blesseda.htm

c.f. Hebrews 10: 22
"let us draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."

"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"We trust as we love, and where we love - If we love Christ much, surely we shall trust Him much." -- Thomas Benton Brooks

Just Be

Be strong enough to
face the world each day
Be weak enough to know
you cannot do everything alone

Be generous to those who need your help
Be frugal with what you need yourself

Be wise enough to know that
you do not know everything
Be foolish enough to

BELIEVE in MIRACLES

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Be willing to
SHARE your JOYS
Be willing to
SHARE the sorrows of others

Be a leader when you see a path others have missed
Be a follower when
you are shrouded in the midst of uncertainty

Be the FIRST to CONGRATULATE an opponent who SUCCEEDS
Be the LAST to CRITICIZE a friend who FAILS

Be sure where next step will fall, so that you will not stumble
Be sure of your final destination,
in case you are going the wrong way.

Be LOVING
to those who LOVE you

Be LOVING
to those who DO NOT LOVE you,
and they may CHANGE.

Above all, BE YOURSELF.
