Celebrating Pierre's Birthday

I certainly enjoyed going out together with this group of colleagues cum friends. It was fun celebrating Pierre's birthday together with Jocelyn, Huiming, Roy, Zac & Kian Ann. Loads of laughters to cheer the day. We had a long dinner at Tony Romas before watching the movie 'Invisible Target'. The movie also had some funny scenes that made us burst out laughing as well.
I am definitely going to miss the presence of sis Jocelyn and bro Pierre as they will be at NIE. Going to miss my xiao mei Jocelyn especially... the kai xin guo who has been cheering both Huiming n me. Heehee... but afterall, we can always meet up. Winks. ;) Going to miss all those laughters.

Moving with the Cheese

Today, I have finished reading this book 'Who Moved My Cheese? written by Dr Spencer Johnson. Wow! I love reading this short story that gives me great motivation to keep moving on. MOVE WITH THE CHEESE, don't stay in a cheeseless situation.

Here is my sharing about the book...

'Who Moved My Cheese?' is a simple parable that reveals profound truths. It is an amusing and enlightening story of four characters who live in a maze and look for cheese to nourish them and make them happy.

"Cheese" is a metapohor for what you want to have in life - whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money, a possession, health or spiritual peace of mind.

"Maze" is where you look for what you want - the organisation you work in, or the family or community you live in.

Put it simply, it's a book that shows how to ...
1) ANTICIPATE CHANGE
2) ADAPT TO CHANGE QUICKLY
3) ENJOY CHANGE
4) BE READY TO CHANGE QUICKLY, AGAIN AND AGAIN.

THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL

1) CHANGE HAPPENS - They keep moving the cheese
2) ANTICIPATE CHANGE - Get ready for the Cheese to MOVE
3) MONITOR CHANGE - Smell the Cheese often so you know when it is getting OLD
4) ADAPT TO CHANGE QUICKLY - The Quicker you LET GO of OLD CHEESE, the SOONER you can ENJOY NEW CHEESE
5) CHANGE - MOVE with the Cheese
6) ENJOY CHANGE! - SAVOUR the Adventure and ENJOY the TASTE OF NEW CHEESE
7) BE READY TO CHANGE QUICKLY AND ENJOY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN - They Keep Moving The Cheese

Truly, LIFE is all about coping with changes and moving with it.

Coping with Changes

For the past 2 weeks, I have been reading this book 'How to Win Friends & Influence People' written by Dale Carnegie. Wow! It's a good book to read. I enjoyed reading the book and using the tips in my life. The following is a sharing of the key principles that I have learnt on various aspects of life.

6 WAYS TO MAKE PEOPLE LIKE YOU

Fundamental techniques in handling people

1) Don't criticize, condemn or complain

2) Give honest and sincere appreciation

3) Arouse in the other person an eager want

12 WAYS TO WIN PEOPLE TO YOUR WAY OF THINKING

1) The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it

2) Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say "You are wrong."

3) If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically

4) Begin in a friendly way

5) Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately

6) Let the other person do a great deal of talking

7) Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers

8) Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view

9) Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires

10) Appeal to the nobler motives

11) Dramatise your ideas

12) Throw down a challenge

9 WAYS TO CHANGE PEOPLE WITHOUT AROUSING RESENTMENT

Be a Leader

A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and behaviour. Some suggestions to accomplish this:

1) Begin with praise and honest appreciation

2) Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly

3) Talk about your own mistakes before criticising the other person

4) Ask questions instead of giving direct orders

5) Let the other person save face

6) Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in approbation and lavish in your praise."

7) Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to

8) Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.

9) Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest

Having finished reading this book, I have moved on to reading the next book 'Who moved my Cheese?' written by Dr Spencer Johnson. Thus far, it has been an interesting and engaging read. I love reading. An interesting story about 4 characters, 2 mice, Sniff & Scurry (simple-minded) and 2 Littlepeople, Hem & Haw (complex-minded). Basically, it is all about coping with changes. Since in life, change is the constant. None of us can ever stop changes from happening. We have to adapt and go with the flow. Keep moving on.

Well, here are a few interesting sayings of these characters that I have read so far:

1) Having Cheese Makes You Happy

2) The More Important Your Cheese Is To You, The More You Want To Hold On To It.

3) If You Do Not Change, You Can Become Extinct

4) What Would You Do, If You Were'nt Afraid?

5) Smell The Cheese Often So You Know When It Is Getting Old

6) Movement in a New Direction Helps You Find New Cheese

7) When You Stop Being Afraid, You Feel Good!

8) Imagining Yourself Enjoying Your New Cheese Leads You To It
Just like what Apostle Paul mentioned in the BIBLE about forgetting what is behind and moving on ahead. Life is race that we run. I went for a jog after work and it refreshes me. It's time to MOVE ON AHEAD, FOCUSING on only GOD, my LORD JESUS, my Saviour. Cast my cares upon the Lord. Everyone is busy with their work on earth. It just comes as a reminder that when I am alone, actually I am not, coz God is with me always. Yesterday, Today & Forevermore. Jesus Christ is my BEST FRIEND ever. Friends on earth are just temporary, coming and going.
Trusting and knowing God will carry me through whatever challenges lie before me. I believe in His plan for me. I dedicate myself to SERVE him to the best as I can in whatever I do. DO IT ALL FOR GOD, NOT FOR MEN. Let It Be! YEAH!

Catching up ...

It's been 4 years since I last met Sing Liean (aka my other xiao mei) for a meal together. She is still as pretty and adorable as ever.

Heehee, immediately after school, I left and caught a bus to Bugis to meet her for lunch. Being thrifty, we shared a Korean meal at the food court. Following that, we had coffee at Starbucks.

I enjoyed the time we shared chatting and catching up on what's been happening to each other. It's been a long time since we last had a good chat since we are always busy people.

Hahaha... looking forward to more such times of going out together ... makan, exercise or jalan. It's great going out with liean mei as she sure knows how to be a super-saver. Budget spending... haahaa... time to start saving for days to come.

Be foolish enough to
