Amateurs

This morning, I read the Daily Bread on 'Amateur Christians'. An amateur is someone who does something simply for the love of it. This strikes a chord with my heart as I am an amateur photographer but considered professional by many in my school since I am the official Tanjong Katong Primary School photographer.

As I meditated on 1 Corinthians 1: 18 - 31 on Christ the Power and Wisdom of God in my NKJV Bible, I am renewed in strength and love once again.

Key verse for the day:
2 Corinthians 5: 14
"For the love of Christ constrains us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died."

What I have learnt:
1) Jesus did not choose those who were wise, mighty or noble by human standards.
(c.f. 1 Cor. 1: 26)

2) Jesus sought those willing to follow Him and be trained for loving service.

3) God looks for "amateurs", those who are willing to serve the Lord for the sheer love of it.

4) Compelled by my love for Jesus, may I, like his disciples and apostles before me, proclaim the love of God for the world by following Christ's example of loving and serving others.

5) I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow:
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now. --Featherstone

*6) One proof of my love for God is my love for my neighbour (people around me...family, friends, children and even my enemies).

Upon searching and reflecting deep in my heart, I discover that my love and passion for teaching originates from my love for God. As I am being renewed by God in love and strength, I feel my heart and passion for teaching being revived. I thank God for the gifts and talents He has given me...especially a great singing voice to sing praises to Him and share my self-composed songs with fellow teachers as a form of inspiration and motivation to spur them on to SUSTAIN THEIR PASSION TO TEACH. I will continue to pray that all the teachers, especially the Beginning Teachers will sustain their passion and keep growing to become even better teachers than ever.

Many of my fellow comrades in teaching have remarked what a pity for me, a passionate teacher with a true heart of teaching to leave the teaching service. Some have even commented that I am a very "gung-ho" teacher who goes all out to try creative, innovative means to motivate and inspire students. To many who graduated in 2004 as fresh graduate teachers like me then, I believe my leaving is unexpected to them and perhaps shocked them. Especially since I organised the Teaching Practice Forum back in NIE days with my Bachelor of Arts Club friends to share teaching resources with all.

However, a time has come for me to prepare to leave teaching to move on to serve God in other areas and widen my horizons. Moving on out of the "fish pond" to the "ocean", growing from a tiny fish into a lively dolphin or whale to explore the worlds beyond schools.

A new chapter is soon beginning for me as I embark on a new adventure to explore the world. I leave with the hope of returning as a more experienced and seasoned teacher to be able to share more with children whom I will teach in future someday.

I do not know what's ahead, but I know my GOD is in control and everything will go as He plans for me. I do not know my tomorrow, but GOD knows. I am safe in His hands. Whatever it be, whatever may come, LET IT BE! Live each day as it is... yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, TODAY is THE PRESENT! Yeah! Praise Be to GOD and ALWAYS GIVE THANKS! GOD IS GOOD!
