Reflections of Term 2 Week 2

On Monday, my class 2Diligence had their Speech n Drama lessons conducted by First Steps trainer. The children enjoyed themselves going through the movements and articulation of words.

The next day, Tuesday, I was down with vomitting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps in lower right abdomen and headache. I was in such pain that I called in on MC and went to polyclinic. To my shock, the doctor referred me to Tan Tock Seng hospital A&E as she suspected I may have appendicitis. Hence, I went to TTSH and had to wait for a long time to do my ECG, urine and blood tests and X-ray. Meanwhile, I still had loose bowels. For the first time in my life, I laid on the hospital bed and was put on a saline drip. I was placed under observation till I was better. I spent half a day at TTSH to get all the checks done. After a thorough check by the doctor, I was diagnosed with germs in the urine... infection. Therefore, the doctor prescribed me some medication for diarrhoea, vomitting and anti-biotics. I was also given 2 days MC, inclusive of the day at TTSH.
On Thursday and Friday, I was back at work. Tons of work awaited me, but just have to take things one step at a time as I get organised to carry out lessons and clear markings. Lots to mark for work done by children in my absence. Thank God that I have helpful colleagues who are always assuring me so that I don't feel so uptight about work that's piling up in my absence. Thank God for the comfort. I definitely needed that. I can only do what I can do, just try.
Coming back home today, I was cheered up by the cute looks of my niece Keziah and nephew Abel. Aren't they adorable? Abel has started to reach out and even kick his toys at 2 months +. As for Keziah, she gives her ever sweet smile. She even helps herself to dinner now.

In the evening, I went out for dinner with my ex-geography lecturer, Prof Teh, together with his wife, another geog lecturer, Prof Yee, and ex-geography friends, Kim Hong, Hui Boon and Thang Li. We had an enjoyable meal and a long chat at Meritius Mandarin Chatterbox restaurant. It has been a long time since I catched up with them and updated on latest happenings. Well, I guess I should do that more often when there are such gatherings.

Marching On...

It has been 3 months since I last updated my blog. I have been busy since the start of the year 2008 teaching my form class, 2 Diligence. The children are lovely. Nonetheless, they have lots more to learn in terms of listening carefully to instructions and putting in more careful effort in their work. Sometimes, they amuse me. At other times, they make my blood boil. Well, kids are kids. Just live on God's strength to survive each day.

Bad times...

For the last 2 weeks of Term 1, it was rather traumatic when my Dad was hospitalised due to blood infection. It was so bad that he could not urinate and had high fever for 6 days. For the first time in his 55 years of life, he was hospitalised. Thank God he was admitted to the hospital in time for treatment with strong anti-biotics and was cured. Praise be to the Lord that my Dad recovered and was able to urinate normally after being in hospital for 2 weeks. Nonetheless, he has to continue with the oral anti-biotics to further strengthen his immune system after this bout of blood infection. Such is the saying of life is short and you never know what happens next. Thank God for guiding us through that period of time. I even developed urticaria aka hives (hong mo) during that period (last week of Term 1) but recovered after 2 days of rest at home.

Good Times...
On the 9th March, one of my close ex-NIE friends, Weijia had her ROM with her prince charming.

I was happy for her that finally she has found a good guy to take care of her. Heehee, she looked gorgeous that day. Together with Thang Li and Hua Chin, we took several photographs together with the pretty bride. Sure missed the good old days when we always took photos together.

This week is the start of Term 2 Week 1. For the first 2 days, I was down with gastric flu. Therefore, I had to stay home to recuperate. While resting, I had my niece to cheer me up.

Prior to that, I had bought all the ingredients and materials needed for the exciting MLEA activity, 'Making Peanut Butter Happy Faces Snacks', to be done for Term 2 Week 1. Being kiasu, I bought extra ingredients and materials. I spent nearly $50 on these items.
When I returned to school on Wednesday, I brought all these goodies to class. Thank God I was well-prepared with the ingredients and materials as most of my 2D children did not bring their stuff. Being a teacher, one must be ever ready and be willing to GIVE. With much prayers beforehand, I am thankful that everything went quite smoothly, other than having to repeat my instructions and keep reminding the children on what should be done. I was glad that the children enjoyed themselves at the end of the activity.

This time round, the children were able to contribute more to the class dictated story as I guided them with probing questions. Joyful moment of engaging children in learning through activity, yet exhausting. I was so exhausted that I had a bad headache by the time I reached home yesterday. As a result, I had to take 2 panadols and headed straight for bed after dinner.

Today was another tiring day at school. Life as a teacher is always accompanied by never-ending work. It's always a matter of prioritising time. Anyway, there's a time for work, there's a time for rest and relaxation. After settling the main marking of books in school, I returned home to rest. Upon reaching home, I realised my mother and sister went out with my niece and nephew to shop at Takashimaya for baby clothes. Hence, I quickly bathed to freshen up before meeting them at Taka in Orchard.

It was certainly delightful to go shopping with my mother, sister, niece Keziah and nephew Abel. Nevertheless, I had my part in babysitting/ entertaining my niece Keziah. That's what aunt (aka yiyi) is for. It was the first time we went out shopping with my sister ever since she gave birth to her 2 darlings. Heehee... and it was also the first time my bro-in-law Wencong gave my mother and I a treat. Wow!! It was a pleasant surprise. We had dinner together at Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, sharing 2 enormous bowls of noodles, 1 plate of fried noodles, 2 baskets of xiao long bao, 1 plate of Shanghai buns and 1 basket of Chinese roti prata. It was a satisfying and enjoyable meal. My niece Keziah sure can eat a lot as well. Hahaha, guess she takes after my eating ability. ;P She has grown a lot, more lovely and adorable each day.

After dinner, my bro-in-law, Wencong drove my mother and I home. My niece Keziah was sad to say goodbye to us when she went home. Nonetheless, we had a pleasant evening.

Since tomorrow is GOOD FRIDAY, time for a good rest and recharge. More work to be done tomorrow. Just do the best that I can and complete whatever is possible. Rest is important to renew strength to keep marching on...

Just Be

Be strong enough to
face the world each day
Be weak enough to know
you cannot do everything alone

Be generous to those who need your help
Be frugal with what you need yourself

Be wise enough to know that
you do not know everything
Be foolish enough to

BELIEVE in MIRACLES

Be willing to
SHARE the sorrows of others

Be a leader when you see a path others have missed
Be a follower when
you are shrouded in the midst of uncertainty

Be the FIRST to CONGRATULATE an opponent who SUCCEEDS
Be the LAST to CRITICIZE a friend who FAILS

Be sure where next step will fall, so that you will not stumble
Be sure of your final destination,
in case you are going the wrong way.

Be LOVING
